Make this a non consumption day if you can--don't buy anything, don't drive anywhere, don't discard anything--recycle or re-use or donate--just huddle around your campfire and ponder.
Over eighty years ago my husband's grandparents came to New Jersey and bought what became Storybook Farm. It was 120 some acres of mostly hilly and rocky land that had been farmed by some determined farmers. The many stone rows attest to their labor.
It was named Storybook Farm by a visitor. Although Lebanon Township is rural, it is only a little more than an hour from New York. Many artists and writers had vacation homes here as land at that time was very cheap.
My father in law was a musician, and his friends came out to the Farm for parties--these parties were legendary--they went on for days, with people coming and going--it seemed like heaven to all these struggling artists to escape the heat and crowds of NYC , & one of them said it was like a storybook.
